I'm a retired pathologist and have been making pottery for about 15 years. For many years, my main artistic outlet was art - drawing and painting. Not surprisingly, I love the decorative aspects of pottery. I use a variety of techniques, including decorating with coloured slip, underglazes and glazes.
My most recent interest is nerikomi or layering - colouring the clay body with stains and making designs from the coloured clay. Each piece takes many hours to make and there are many opportunities for things to go amiss, but it allows for the creation of beautiful and unique items. These pieces are hand built, with typically a foot added on the wheel.
